Celebrate Holi with organic colours

With summer rolling in, the festival of colours is once again knocking on our doors for a sense of recreation and relief. Holi is a favourite among the masses and is especially anticipated by kids.

Celebrating the arrival of summer as well as calling for a good spring harvest, Holi signifies the bearings of nature as well as encourages us to let go of our inhibitions and resentments through the beauty of colours.

The gulal in Holi is more than just having a lively time- it encourages mending relationships, spreading love and liberating our consciousness. With groovy Bollywood music to dance to and delicious gujiyas to savour; all our sensory aesthetics are amply satisfied.

Yet, there are shades of Holi that cannot be brushed over. While all fun and games, the festival has become a real hazard for the health of the environment and as well as for ourselves. The ritual of Holika Dahan, i.e, burning wood and other materials embodying ‘evil’ has contributed immensely towards the rise of air pollution and deforestation in the past few decades. And to add to that; skin infections, allergies, rashes and itching along with hair damage have become some commonly expected aftereffects of Holi.

This is the reason for the rising trend of using organic colours, as well as why people have limited the use of water for the celebration. The shift has been gradual but effective.

Eco-friendly gulal is in high demand this season not only to curb the impact on nature but to also avoid skin and hair diseases.

New parents are especially more conscious of their kids’ safety and are eager to look for solutions to have a fun yet safe Holi.

There is a big reliance on facial oils, sunscreens and moisturizing gels to steer clear of any sort of skin damage.

Face and hair masks as well as natural remedies like aloe vera, turmeric for skin and almond or olive oil for hair are being counted on to enjoy a harmless Holi.

It’s always preferable to be safe rather than sorry.

Holi is a festivity of absolute joy, and there is no joy with any harm. Here is to everyone having a fun, safe and happy Holi!
