The Central Government has issued a notification to rename the Civil Court Metro Station in Pune to ‘District Court, Pune’. This decision, expected to be implemented soon, follows persistent advocacy efforts by the Pune Bar Association, representing lawyers in the district.

The station, initially named Civil Court upon the launch of Pune’s metro service, raised concerns among citizens and legal professionals. Many found the name confusing as it implied a limited jurisdiction, contrary to the Shivajinagar District and Sessions Court’s comprehensive role in handling various cases including civil, criminal, family matters, and motor accident claims.

The Pune Bar Association spearheaded the campaign for renaming, emphasizing the importance of accurately representing the court’s functions to the public.

The Shivajinagar District and Sessions Court, often referred to officially by its comprehensive title, faced ongoing confusion due to the mismatch with the metro station’s former name.

The renaming of the metro station is anticipated to mitigate confusion and align with the court’s actual operational breadth, providing clearer information to Pune’s residents and visitors alike.
