CET Exams to Be Held Only Within Maharashtra
Special CET To Be Held For Civil Services Aspirants Affected By Maharashtra Floods
Maharashtra Discontinues CET Exams Outside State Over Integrity Concerns. After LLB CET results showed all toppers from a single Patna centre, Maharashtra bans CET exams outside the state to ensure transparency and fairness.
In a major decision aimed at restoring the credibility of Common Entrance Tests (CETs), Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced that CET exams will no longer be conducted outside the state.
The announcement came a day after the five-year LLB CET results revealed a startling pattern all four top scorers hailed from a single exam centre in Patna, Bihar. This raised serious doubts about the integrity of the examination process and prompted swift government action.
“Going forward, to ensure complete transparency and prevent malpractices, CETs will not be held outside of Maharashtra,” said Patil. The minister confirmed that the investigating agencies have been informed about the irregularities flagged in the latest CET results.
Earlier this year, in March 2025, the MBA-CET exam had also come under scrutiny after several students reported receiving unsolicited calls promising inflated scores and guaranteed admissions into top colleges for a price ranging between ₹11 to ₹20 lakh. The Mumbai police later arrested three individuals in Delhi in connection with the scam.
The Maharashtra CET Cell currently conducts over 18 different entrance exams for admissions to professional courses like engineering, management, law, pharmacy, and more. While most CETs are held within the state, select exams such as MBA-CET and LLB-CET have been extended to a few cities outside Maharashtra, including Patna, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.
“These outside centres were already limited in number. After the MBA-CET scam, we had started phasing them out. But some exams had already been scheduled and couldn’t be cancelled. Now we have decided to stop them completely,” a CET Cell official said.
The LLB CET result anomaly and the earlier MBA-CET scam have reignited concerns over exam security and fairness, prompting the state government to tighten its exam administration protocols.
