Chandigarh Boy Secures All-India First Rank in NEET PG 2024.Dr. Vaibhav Garg, hailing from a family of engineers, has achieved the top rank in NEET PG 2024 with a perfect 100 percentile.
Dr. Vaibhav Garg, a Chandigarh resident, has made headlines by securing the all-India first rank in the NEET PG 2024 with a perfect 100 percentile. Coming from a family of engineers, Garg’s achievement is particularly notable as he will be the first doctor in his family. His journey to becoming a top medical candidate was fueled by a personal tragedy—the loss of his maternal uncle to Covid-19 during the pandemic’s second wave.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced the NEET PG 2024 results recently, and Garg’s remarkable performance has made his city proud. A graduate of the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh’s Sector 32, Garg decided to pursue medicine after experiencing the impact of Covid-19 firsthand. His father, Sanjeev Garg, works as an assistant executive engineer at Haryana Power Generation Limited, while his mother, Manju Garg, is a primary school teacher at DAV Surajpur School. His sister, Aditi, is a software engineer at Amazon.
Reflecting on his motivation, Garg shared, “During the second wave of Covid, my entire family fell ill, and I lost my uncle, who was very close to me. That experience made me determined to become a good doctor.” Despite coming from an engineering background, Garg was always fascinated by the human body, which further fueled his desire to enter the medical field.
Rigorous Preparation and Focused Mindset
Garg’s preparation for NEET PG was intense, especially since he was also interning at the time. Initially, he managed only three to four hours of study daily, but he soon increased his study time to 12 hours a day. He attributes part of his success to staying away from social media, using platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram strictly for study materials and doubt-solving.
Despite facing challenges, such as the postponement of the NEET PG exam from June 23 to August 11, Garg remained steadfast. He noted that the unexpected delay taught him valuable lessons in patience and perseverance.
Looking forward, Garg expressed a desire to specialize in medicine, emphasizing the importance of repeated revisions and staying focused on one’s goals. His story serves as an inspiration to aspiring doctors, showing that with dedication and a clear purpose, success is within reach.
