College Girl From Pune Raped By Four Friends Met On Instagram, Case Uncovered During Police Awareness Campaign in Pune
An alarming incident has surfaced involving a college girl from Nagar Road, Pune, who was raped by four individuals. These four men, who became friends with her through Instagram, established physical relationships with her on different occasions. The incidents took place at various locations and involved different individuals. As a result of the trauma, the girl fell into depression and has since begun counseling. The incident was uncovered during a ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ awareness campaign conducted by the Pune police at the girl’s college.
The Koregaon Park police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 2023, including Sections 75, 78, 64 (2)(m), along with sections from the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act—Sections 4, 68, 12—and the Information Technology Act—Sections 67, 67(A), 67(B), and 6(E). Two suspects, Om Adesh Gholap (20) and Swapnil Vikash Devkar (22), have been arrested, while two minors involved in the crime have been taken into custody. The arrested adults have been remanded to police custody, whereas the minors were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and are now held in a juvenile observation home.
According to the police, the issue came to light during a “Good Touch, Bad Touch” awareness program at the college, where a female police officer noticed a young girl who appeared distressed. The girl eventually confided in the counselor present at the event, sharing concerns about her close friend who seemed to be under constant stress. She mentioned receiving frequent calls from several boys, which raised alarms. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the counselor invited the girl and her parents for a follow-up meeting. During this discussion, the girl bravely revealed that she had formed connections with four different boys on Instagram, each of whom had established physical relations with her through manipulative tactics. These incidents occurred between April 2024 and September 2024 at different locations.
The counselor passed this information on to the college trustees, who promptly contacted the Koregaon Park police. A formal complaint was lodged based on the girl’s detailed statement.
The accused are college students from different institutions, with one actively pursuing higher education, while the two minors have also been arrested. So far, no direct connections among the accused have been found. Importantly, these incidents did not take place at any parties but occurred individually between April and September 2024.
The police have conducted a comprehensive investigation. Officers were dispatched to track down the accused individuals. Medical examinations of the victim and all accused, including the minors, were carried out. Furthermore, CCTV footage from the identified crime scene has been secured, and the DVR has been confiscated. A detailed technical analysis of the victim’s and accused’s mobile phones is in progress, with assistance from cyber experts.
