Pedgaon, Ahilyanagar District – After Pedgaon, Chandgaon has also imposed a ban on the sale of caffeinated soft drinks and energy drinks. The village Gram Panchayat passed a resolution on Tuesday, citing concerns over the growing consumption of these beverages among schoolchildren. Parents have welcomed the move, emphasizing the potential health risks.

Despite existing restrictions on selling such drinks to individuals under 18, they are easily available in local shops. Recognizing the dangers, Chandgaon Sarpanch Manisha Mhaske took the initiative to introduce the ban and urged local vendors to support it for the well-being of students.

Caffeinated soft drinks have gained popularity among schoolchildren, with reports of their increasing presence at birthday parties and social gatherings. Concerned parents fear that regular consumption could lead to addiction. The craze for these drinks is particularly noticeable among students in secondary and higher secondary schools.

Pedgaon was the first village in the district to implement a ban after reports surfaced that a student’s death was linked to excessive consumption of caffeinated beverages. Pedgaon Sarpanch Irfan Pirjade had led the initiative to prohibit their sale.

Parents Call for Wider Action
