Pune: On Tuesday, the air operations at Visakhapatnam Airport were severely affected by the arrival of the powerful cyclonic storm Michaung in the Bay of Bengal. As a result, the airport authorities were compelled to cancel a total of 23 flights. The inclement weather conditions forced the airlines to take the necessary step of cancelling the flights, as stated by the airport director.

Passengers are advised to get in touch with the airlines for additional information regarding the cancellation of flights to and from various destinations such as Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Chennai.

Officials have confirmed that the airport is currently functioning to cater to emergency services. However, due to ongoing expansion work, the runway will only be operational until 8 pm As a precautionary measure, the entire coastal area of Andhra Pradesh is on high alert as Michaung is expected to make landfall near Bapatla on Tuesday afternoon. 

The region is expected to experience strong winds with a velocity of 90-100 kmph, which may gust up to 110 kmph, as per the forecast by the weather department. Additionally, officials have cautioned that the sea is turbulent and tidal waves of 1 to 1.5 meters may hit the coast. Fishermen have been advised to avoid going out to sea.
