Pune: The Union government is currently strategizing the implementation of a scheme that will provide free and cashless medical assistance to individuals involved in road accidents. This initiative is expected to be rolled out within a timeframe of three to four months.

As per the information provided, the amended Motor Vehicle Act 2019 (MVA 2019) includes the provision of free and cashless medical treatment for accident-injured victims.

While some states have already implemented this provision, the Ministry of Roads, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, will now ensure its full implementation nationwide.

As per the information received, the implementation of the cashless medical facility will occur within a timeframe of three to four months. This initiative is specifically designed to offer cashless trauma care treatment to victims of road accidents.

The objective is to ensure that these individuals receive immediate medical attention at the nearest suitable hospital in the country, as mandated by the Supreme Court ruling.

He also mentioned that road accident victims, including those in the critical first hour known as the golden hour, as defined by the MV Amendment Act, will receive cashless treatment. During an event organized by the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE), it was emphasized that India has the highest number of road accident deaths globally.

Additionally, the Union Ministry of Education has agreed to incorporate road safety into the curriculum of schools and colleges to promote education and awareness about road safety. Additionally, various measures have been implemented for vehicular engineering, such as the introduction of Bharat NCAP and the inclusion of seat belt reminders.

The event will be attended by global road safety experts who will collaborate to discuss and establish recommended guidelines for driver certification, the analysis of road accidents through comprehensive crash investigations, and the protection of vulnerable road users.
