Pune: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of weather change in Mumbai due to concerns about potential cyclonic storm development in the Arabian Sea.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Anupam Kashyapi, Head, Weather Forecasting Division, IMD Pune said, “A cyclone is indeed getting developed in the Arabian Sea however, there is no need to worry about it as it won’t cause any damage or problems as such.”

As per further information, it is anticipated that during the next 48 hours, a low-pressure region will form over the southeast and adjacent east-central Arabian Sea.

As per information from the X handle of the Indian Meteorological Department, ‘A low-pressure area has formed over Southeast and adjoining East & Central Arabian Sea in the morning of October 18. To move West-Northwestwards and intensify into a depression around October 21.’

Because of the warmer water temperatures, October through December is one of the best times of year for cyclone development in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. A system for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean region dictates that a tropical storm formed in the Indian seas will be referred to as ‘Tej.’

The courses and timing of cyclones in the Arabian Sea have historically been unpredictable.

After passing over the central Arabian Sea, the cyclones tend to move in the direction of Somalia, the Gulf of Aden, Yemen, and Oman. These cyclones do, however, occasionally veer off course and approach the coasts of Pakistan and Gujarat.

In the meantime, Mumbai saw its highest temperature in the month of October this year on Wednesday, reaching 36.4 degrees Celsius.
