The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a warning about high tidal waves expected to hit the shores of Mumbai over the next 36 hours, urging citizens to avoid visiting the seashore until Sunday night.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the National Institute for Oceanography (NIO) have alerted the BMC about the impending tidal waves, which are forecasted to rise to heights of 0.5-1.5 meters.

To ensure public safety, the BMC has deployed lifeguards and marshals along the seafront to prevent people from entering the sea. Additionally, residents in low-lying areas have been advised to temporarily relocate, with alternative accommodation arrangements made in municipal schools and community halls.

Furthermore, the fisherfolk community has been enlisted to secure their boats and vessels at a safe distance from the rocky shores to avoid potential collisions and damage. The BMC has urged citizens, tourists, and weekend picnickers to refrain from visiting beaches, shores, or seafronts during this period and to cooperate with all concerned agencies.

With the Arabian Sea expected to experience high surges, precautionary measures are being taken to mitigate potential risks, including advising fisherfolk to exercise caution and keep their boats securely moored.
