Pune, 14 May 2023 – In response to the scheduled visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in Pune, the local authorities have taken the decision to temporarily close the popular tourist spot, namely Khadakwasla Dam Chowpatty. The closure, aimed at ensuring security and minimizing disruptions during the minister’s visit, will be in effect until 2:00 pm tomorrow, May 15.

The Haveli Police have implemented strict measures to enforce the closure and ensure public compliance. However, the sudden implementation without prior notice has left many tourists expressing strong displeasure.

Khadakwasla Dam Chowpatty attracts a significant number of visitors, especially during weekends, leading to heavy traffic congestion in the evenings. Consequently, authorities have deemed it necessary to restrict access to these areas during the Defense Minister’s visit.

Sachin Wangade, the Police Inspector at Haveli Police Station, has stated that Khadakwasla Chowpatty will be inaccessible to tourists for the entire day today on May 14 and until approximately 2:00 pm tomorrow. Stringent security measures have been put in place under the guidance of senior officials, following a thorough security review. Authorities expect the cooperation of tourists and citizens during this period.

Visitors are advised to plan their activities accordingly and adhere to the closure for the specified duration. By doing so, they contribute to a seamless visit for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while ensuring the overall security of the area.
