Dehu Road : Five people lost life as hoarding in Pimpri Chinchwad area collapses

PUNE: A tragic incident occurred in Kiwale area of Pimpri Chinchwad city, when a hoarding collapsed, resulting in the death of five people, leaving three others injured. The incident took place on Monday evening.

According to the police, due to heavy wind a large hoarding erected along the road side of Dehu-Katraj road suddenly collapsed, trapping several people underneath. In the chaos that ensued, five people lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries.

The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem. The identities of the victims have not yet been revealed, and the cause of the flex collapse is still under investigation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Kakasaheb Dole said, “In an unfortunate incident in which five people lost their life and three were injured in the incident happened in Kiwale.’’ Investigations into the incident are being carried out by the civic authorities as well as Pimpri Chinchwad Police.

The rescue work is currently underway, and six cranes are being used to remove the debris and shift the injured to the hospital. The rescue teams reached the spot and carried out the rescue work.

The authorities have advised citizens to be cautious during such weather conditions and to avoid taking shelter under hoardings or any other temporary structures.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner said, “As of now our first priority is to save the lives of the victims and made available them medical assistance in due course of time, we will find out legality of the hoarding and action will be taken accordingly.”
