Delhi Police Detains Shopkeeper Over Biryani Served on Plates with Lord Ram Image, Later Releases Him
A brief detainment by Delhi Police of an eatery owner occurred following a complaint alleging the sale of biryani on disposable plates purportedly featuring a picture of Lord Ram in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, officials reported on Tuesday.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the shopkeeper had purchased 1000 plates from a factory, of which only four had a picture of Lord Ram printed on them, a police officer disclosed. “He informed us that he was unaware of the presence of Lord Ram’s image on the plates, a statement corroborated by the factory owners,” the officer added.
The incident was brought to light when the Delhi Police received a call from Jahangirpuri reporting the sale of biryani on plates adorned with a picture of Lord Ram on Saturday afternoon.
Upon arrival at the scene, a group of individuals were found protesting outside the shop. They were reassured of a thorough investigation into the matter, which helped pacify the situation, stated a police officer.
The shopkeeper was detained under IPC sections 107/151 (preventive detention) and later released, with the plates also confiscated, the officer mentioned. As of now, no case has been registered, and the matter remains under investigation.
