In a startling case from Delhi’s Najafgarh area, a Class 9 student has been detained by the police after allegedly stealing his mother’s gold ornaments to buy an iPhone for his girlfriend’s birthday. The incident, which unfolded earlier this week, came to light when the boy’s mother noticed that her jewelry was missing and promptly filed a First Information Report (FIR).

According to police reports, the boy had initially asked his mother for money to purchase the iPhone. However, due to financial constraints, she refused his request. Determined to secure the gift, the boy resorted to stealing gold jewelry from his mother. The theft was discovered when the mother found her gold chains, earrings, and ring missing. The police investigation revealed no signs of forced entry or involvement of outsiders, as confirmed by local CCTV footage and interviews with neighbors.

Suspicion shifted to the boy after he went missing shortly after the theft was reported. During their investigation, officers found that the boy had recently bought an iPhone worth Rs 50,000 and was in a relationship with a classmate. Friends of the boy corroborated these findings. The situation escalated when the boy was apprehended on Wednesday evening while trying to sneak back into his home. The police seized the iPhone during the arrest.
