Pune International Airport begins live testing of its new virtual facial verification system, known as DigiYatra, on January 12th, 2023.

The system, which is accessible via a registered application,DigiYatra aims to achieve seamless and contactless processing of passengers at airports based on facial recognition technology (FRT). It has been designed to make the boarding process more efficient for flyers.

DigiYatra was launched at Delhi T3, Bengaluru and Varanasi in December 2022. The system will also be launched at Hyderabad, Kolkata and Vijayawada airports in 2023.

The airport plans to use the technology to streamline the security and check-in process for passengers, allowing for a smoother and more convenient travel experience.

The testing phase is expected to last for several weeks before a decision is made on whether to implement the system on a permanent basis.
For registration on app, the id must be created using relevant information. The DigiYatra id will be shared while booking tickets. Airline companies, in turn, will share this id and passenger data with the airport of departure.
“The DigiYatra live testing will start from D1 gate from January 12 to 31. Before this, we conducted a dry test but now we are ready to conduct live testing.  When we get approval from the headquarters, the DigiYatra system will be installed at other airport gates soon, in the second phase,” said Santosh Dhoke, director, Pune international airport.
