This year, banks may observe multiple days of closure during the Diwali festivities. Here are the specific dates to keep in mind.

Deepavali is one of the most significant festivals in India and among Hindu communities worldwide. Celebrated with immense joy across different regions, its significance goes beyond religious practices, reflecting deep cultural, spiritual, and economic values.

On October 31, Diwali will be recognized as a bank holiday in several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

In addition, states such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal will also celebrate Diwali on that day, with additional regional holidays on November 1 (Friday).

Throughout October, Indian banks will be closed for a total of 15 days due to various national and regional holidays. It is recommended that individuals plan their banking activities ahead of time to avoid any disruptions.

Here’s a comprehensive list of bank holidays across India for the remaining days of October.

  • October 26: Accession Day (Jammu and Kashmir) and Fourth Saturday.
  • October 27: Weekly holiday (Sunday).
  • October 31: Diwali (Deepavali)/Kali Puja/Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday/Naraka Chaturdashi

Banks are not only closed during holiday periods but also on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) publishes a yearly schedule of bank holidays that includes festivals, regional celebrations, national holidays, and standard weekend closures.
