Late-night incident near Bannerghatta Road escalated into violence as police take two women into custody

A late-night road rage incident in Bengaluru has triggered widespread anger online after two women, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, crashed their bike into a cab and then assaulted the driver in full public view.

The incident occurred near Hulimavu on Bannerghatta Road, where the women were reportedly returning after visiting friends. According to reports, their bike rammed into a cab from behind. The cab driver, identified as Ahmed, confronted them over the collision, but the argument quickly spiralled into a violent altercation.

Videos now circulating widely on social media show the women shouting abuses at bystanders, making obscene gestures, and behaving aggressively as a crowd gathered at the spot. In one clip, a woman is seen kicking men who attempt to restrain her.

Witnesses alleged that the women struck the driver with a helmet during the confrontation. Some locals who stepped in to calm the situation were also reportedly attacked. A few onlookers even claimed that one of the women used a chain wrapped around her hand to assault the driver.

Even after police arrived and escorted the women into a police vehicle, one of them continued yelling at the crowd and gesturing aggressively, further fuelling public outrage.

A social media user who shared the video wrote that such incidents reflect a “serious decline in civic responsibility,” stressing that alcohol can never justify violence or obscene behaviour in public spaces.

Police have registered a case against the two women identified as Lisa and Matthew and taken them into custody. Further investigation is currently underway.

The incident has reignited conversations around drunken driving, public misconduct, and the urgent need for strict enforcement to ensure safety on city roads.
