Drunk Driver in Pune Arrested After Viral Video Sparks Outrage

Pune: In a startling event on Sunday morning, Pune police arrested a driver for driving under the influence after a video showing his reckless driving on Karve Road went viral. The arrest took place around 9 a.m., just hours before a scheduled peace rally led by Maratha leader Manoj Jarange Patil.

The driver, identified as Shubham Gupta, was intercepted by police officers near Savarkar Bhavan after a concerned citizen recorded and shared a video of his dangerous driving behavior online. The video quickly spread across social media, prompting immediate action by the local authorities.

Senior Police Inspector from Deccan Gymkhana police station, confirmed the incident. “As soon as the video gained attention, our patrolling team intercepted the vehicle. The driver was clearly intoxicated and was immediately subjected to a medical examination,” she stated.

Upon further inspection, the vehicle was found to have sustained damage, with visible bruising on the left side bumper. Additionally, a doctor’s sign was noted on the car’s windshield, raising concerns about possible prior collisions.

Inspector Nimbalkar also mentioned that the police are investigating the circumstances of the damage to the vehicle. “If no one comes forward to report the incident, we will proceed to file charges as the complainant,” she added.
