Drunk Law Student Rams Car Into Vehicles in Vadodara; One Woman Killed, Eight Injured |CCTV Video
Vadodara: A 23-year-old law student, Rakshit Chaurasia, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed his car into three vehicles, killing a woman and injuring eight others in the Karelibaug area late Wednesday night.
The accused, a fourth-year law student at M S University, was reportedly driving a car owned by his friend, Meet Chauhan, who was seated in the passenger seat. According to police reports, the accident occurred near Amrapali Complex, where Chaurasia first hit a woman on a two-wheeler before colliding with two other bikers.
The impact was so severe that the car’s airbags deployed. While Chauhan exited the vehicle and distanced himself from the incident, Chaurasia allegedly stepped out and began shouting phrases like “another round,” “uncle,” and “Om Namah Shivay” in an erratic manner.
Locals, outraged by the incident, prevented Chaurasia from escaping and physically assaulted him before the police arrived. CCTV footage captured the entire episode.
Legal Action and Investigation
Vadodara Additional Police Commissioner Leena Patil confirmed Chaurasia’s arrest, stating, “His blood samples have been collected to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol.” The police have also taken Chauhan’s blood samples. If intoxicated, he will be booked under the Prohibition Act.
Senior police officials have charged Chaurasia with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The deceased has been identified as Hemali Patel, while her husband, Purav Patel, who was riding with her, remains in critical condition. Among the injured is a child who has been hospitalized.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Chaurasia’s repeated cries of “another round” may have indicated an intent to continue reckless driving. He hails from Uttar Pradesh and resides in a rented house in Nizampura, Vadodara.
Authorities continue their investigation into the tragic incident.
