Pune: In response to increased demand for electricity during the summer season, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (Mahatransco) had announced a temporary shutdown of power in certain areas of Pune. This precautionary measure was aimed at mitigating the risk of overloading the 220 KV Urse to Chinchwad high voltage power line.

As per information, the affected areas included Wakad, Baner, Balewadi, Hinjewadi, Pimple Saudagar, Bavdhan, Nigdi, and several others. The power shutdown was initiated at 10 am on Friday and lasted until 2 pm, with rotational load regulations implemented for durations ranging from half an hour to one and a half hours.

The Chinchwad 220 KV substation receives power supply through Mahatransco’s 220 KV Urse to Chinchwad ultra-high voltage line. However, due to the soaring electricity demand caused by the scorching summer, the load on this power line exceeded 750 amperes. To manage this situation, load regulations of approximately 50 to 60 megawatts were enforced. These load regulations affected Mahatransco’s 220 KV Chinchwad and Hinjewadi substations, as well as the 132 KV Rahatani and NCL substations.

Consequently, power lines connected to these substations were subjected to rotational load regulations from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. The affected areas included Hinjewadi, Wakad, Tathwade, Thergaon, Chinchwad, Pimpale Saudagar, Sangvi, Pimpale Nilakh, Punawale, Balewadi, Baner, Bavdhan, and Nigdi. Once the power load on the Urse to Chinchwad ultra-high voltage line subsided around 2 pm, the load regulations in these areas were lifted.

The temporary power shutdown and load regulations were implemented as precautionary measures to ensure the reliability and stability of the power infrastructure during periods of high electricity consumption, according to officials.
