Tesla CEO Elon Musk has deferred his much-anticipated visit to India, originally scheduled for April 21 and 22, citing heavy obligations at Tesla.

Musk was set to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit and unveil plans for Tesla’s entry into the Indian market.

Musk confirmed the postponement of his trip, expressing his eagerness to visit India later this year. His visit was anticipated to herald significant investments, with reports suggesting potential commitments of $2-3 billion in India. Additionally, Musk was expected to discuss plans for Starlink, his satellite internet venture, which is also poised to enter the Indian market.

Despite the setback, Musk’s interest in India remains evident, with his previous meeting with Prime Minister Modi in June last year signaling Tesla’s intent to establish a presence in the country at the earliest opportunity. India’s recent policy changes, including tax reductions on imported cars and liberalization of entry routes for foreign investors in the space sector, further underscore its appeal as a potential market for Tesla and Starlink.

While Musk’s visit has been delayed, anticipation remains high for Tesla’s eventual entry into India and the potential opportunities it could bring to the country’s automotive and technology sectors.
