Emergency Preparedness Mock Drills Successfully Held At Six Locations Across Pune Under ‘Operation Abhyas’
Pune, May 7: As part of the Government of India’s ‘Operation Abhyas’ initiative, successful mock drills were carried out at six key locations in Pune district today. These included Vidhansabha premises, Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Vanaz Industrial Area, Talegaon Nagar Parishad, and Mulshi Panchayat Samiti. The drills were simultaneously conducted in urban and rural areas at 4 PM.
After the completion of the drills, District Collector Jitendra Dudi briefed the media in the premises of the Vidhansabha, stating that all mock drills were successfully executed.
Present during the demonstration at the Vidhansabha were Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Colonel Prashant Chatur, Additional Commissioner Arun Anandkar, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Nagnath Yampalle, District Disaster Management Officer Vitthal Banote, and officials from various government departments.
Collector Dudi explained that the mock drills simulated emergency situations to assess the readiness and coordination among departments. The sequence began with a siren, followed by a simulated explosion and the release of tear gas canisters. In a staged scenario, people were shown trapped in buildings and were rescued with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Key emergency departments such as the Health Department, Fire Brigade, and Civil Defence responded in a coordinated manner. Health teams demonstrated prompt ambulance services, while fire services effectively performed fire control measures. The entire mock drill at each location was completed within 25 to 60 minutes, reflecting efficient planning and execution.
In rural locations, the drills also aimed to raise public awareness. Local sarpanches, gram sevaks, and residents actively participated, ensuring community-level involvement and preparedness.
Mock drills were conducted simultaneously at:
- Vidhan Bhavan premises
- Pune Municipal Corporation headquarters
- Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation headquarters
- Vanaz Industrial Area
- Mulshi Panchayat Samiti
- Talegaon Nagar Parishad
Participants included personnel from the Civil Defence, NDRF, Police, Revenue, Health, Municipal Corporations, Fire Department, Disaster Management Department, and Red Cross Society, as well as officers and staff from various government agencies. Students from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Nehru Yuva Kendra, and college volunteers also took part.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi emphasized that these drills were conducted as a preparedness exercise to ensure timely and coordinated response in case of real emergencies.
