Anant Chaturdashi marks the final day of the grand Ganesh festival, and in 2025, it will be observed on September 6. The day is especially important for devotees of Lord Ganesha, as it symbolizes bidding farewell to the deity after days of worship and celebration. On this day, idols of Ganesha are immersed in rivers, lakes, or the sea, signifying his return to nature and reminding everyone of the eternal cycle of life.

Meaning Behind the Day

The Ganesh festival begins with Ganesh Chaturthi and lasts for 10 days. Families and communities welcome Ganesha idols in their homes or public pandals and worship them with devotion. While some people keep the idols for shorter periods like 1.5, 3, 5, or 7 days, most devotees choose the full 11 days, with the immersion taking place on Anant Chaturdashi. The immersion, known as Visarjan, is not just a ritual but a symbolic act of letting go while keeping the divine presence in the heart.

Who Takes Part in the Observance

Several groups of people play a role in the celebration of Anant Chaturdashi. Devotees prepare prayers and offerings for Lord Ganesha. Priests guide the rituals and decide on the correct timings for immersion. Community members come together for processions and cultural programs. Local authorities also step in to manage the large public gatherings and ensure smooth immersion activities at water bodies.

Rituals of the Day

The rituals of Anant Chaturdashi are rich in tradition. Idols of Ganesha are carried in large processions filled with singing, dancing, and chanting of “Ganpati Bappa Morya.” Families decorate the idols, offer prayers, and seek blessings before taking them to immersion sites. The immersion itself is done at a specific Shubh Muhurat (auspicious timing), which devotees follow with great care.

Connection With Lord Vishnu

Anant Chaturdashi also holds deep meaning in Sanatan Dharma, as it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. On this day, devotees worship Vishnu along with Sheshnag and tie a sacred thread called the Anant Raksha Sutra. This ritual is believed to bring prosperity, protect from troubles, and ensure good fortune. Along with Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi is also worshipped for happiness and peace in the family.

Date and Auspicious Time in 2025

According to the Vedic calendar, the Chaturdashi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the Bhadrapada month will begin on September 6 at 3:12 AM and end on September 7 at 1:41 AM. As per the Udaya Tithi, Anant Chaturdashi will be celebrated on September 6, 2025. The auspicious period for worship, or puja, will start at 5:21 AM on September 6 and last until the end of the Tithi on September 7. Devotees can perform rituals during this entire window.

Special Yogas on This Day

Astrologers also point out that Anant Chaturdashi 2025 will fall under Sukarma Yog and Ravi Yog, along with the presence of Dhanishta and Shatabhisha Nakshatras. These astrological combinations are considered very auspicious, making it an ideal time to worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Performing puja during these yogas is believed to bless devotees with prosperity and fulfillment.

Anant Chaturdashi beautifully blends devotion for both Lord Ganesha and Lord Vishnu. While it marks the conclusion of Ganesh Utsav with emotional farewells to Ganesha idols, it also opens the path for blessings from Vishnu.
