Two men in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district were arrested for producing and circulating counterfeit Rs 500 notes, reportedly using YouTube tutorials as their guide, officials said on Friday. Identified as Satish Rai and Pramod Mishra, the two suspects allegedly printed the fake currency on Rs 10 stamp paper using a computer printer. They had sourced the stamp paper from Mirzapur, according to police reports.

The counterfeit notes, totaling Rs 30,000, all bore the same serial number. The pair were apprehended in Sonbhadra’s Ramgarh market, where they were planning to spend an additional Rs 10,000 in fake currency.

Authorities recovered 20 fake Rs 500 notes from the suspects. “These notes were very convincing, and only someone familiar with specific currency features would recognize them as fake,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Kalu Singh.

Rai and Mishra, who typically printed advertisements for mineral water as their profession, reportedly learned how to produce the fake currency through YouTube tutorials, police said. In addition to the counterfeit notes, the police seized an Alto car, a laptop, a printer, printing equipment, and 27 stamp papers during the arrest.
