A Reddit post by a 21-year-old has gone viral after he shared a heartfelt reflection on his family’s changing dynamics despite his father’s growing income.
According to the user, his father, now 50, earned just ₹3.2 lakh annually in 2010 but now makes nearly ₹1 crore a year. Yet, the son says, those earlier years were far happier.
He recalled how, even with limited income, his father ensured the family lived comfortably — going to malls every week, watching movies, eating out, and buying gadgets like PSPs, iPods, and Xbox 360. “He never let us feel any financial pressure,” the son wrote, remembering how laughter filled their home back then.
However, around 2017–18, things began to change. Outings stopped, arguments became frequent, and the warmth in the family slowly disappeared. “Now he earns close to ₹1 crore a year, but no one in the house is happy. My parents barely talk. I barely talk to them,” the user shared, adding that he plans to move out after college.
The emotional post sparked a wide range of reactions on social media.
Some users pointed out that ₹3.2 lakh in 2010 was a decent salary, roughly equivalent to ₹9 lakh today. “People still manage with similar incomes even now,” one commenter wrote.
