Specialists in Pune successfully carried out a complex procedure to remove an LED bulb stuck deep inside an infant’s lung and saved the child’s life.

In a rare and critical medical case, doctors at the Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences (AICTS) in Pune saved the life of a nine-month-old baby after removing an LED bulb lodged inside the child’s left lung.
According to the Indian Army’s Southern Command, the bulb along with its corrosive wires had become stuck deep inside the airway, creating a life-threatening emergency. Doctors performed a highly complex bronchoscopic procedure to remove the object without the need for major surgery.
The Army said the operation was extremely risky, with chances of airway collapse and serious lung damage. However, the medical team carried out the surgery with great precision and successfully restored the infant’s normal breathing without complications.
Images shared by the Army showed the extracted LED bulb and X-rays of the child’s lung before and after the procedure.

The feat received praise on social media, with many users calling the doctors “real-life heroes.” Several people also highlighted the importance of keeping small and dangerous objects away from children.
In another recent medical success, doctors at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala saved a newborn baby girl born with a rare congenital defect that prevented her from swallowing milk or saliva. The medical team created a temporary opening in the food pipe and inserted a feeding tube directly into the baby’s stomach to provide nutrition support.
Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh praised the doctors and said the treatment was provided free of cost under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana.
