Father-Son Duo Arrested for Attack Over Honking Dispute in Pune
Two men were arrested for attacking a family of three during a road rage incident over honking in the Mundhwa area on Thursday night.
The accused, identified as Raju Gaikwad and his son Shubham Gaikwad, allegedly attacked Rajesh Wakchaure, his wife Suvarna, and their daughter Sanskruti, following a dispute.
The incident occurred around 9 pm when the Wakchaure family was driving towards Koregaon Park. Due to heavy traffic on Mundhwa-Koregaon Park Road, Wakchaure honked at the Gaikwad duo to move ahead.
Irritated by the honking, Raju and Shubham stepped out of their car and began abusing Wakchaure. A heated argument broke out, which quickly escalated. The Gaikwads reportedly attacked Rajesh with a sharp weapon, injuring him.
When Suvarna and Sanskruti stepped out to intervene, they too were injured. The accused also vandalized the Wakchaure family’s car during the assault and issued threats before fleeing.
Police arrived at the scene soon after the incident, bringing the situation under control. The Gaikwad duo was arrested and taken into custody.
Rajesh Wakchaure and his family sustained injuries and are recovering. Their car sustained significant damage during the attack.
The incident has raised concerns about rising road rage incidents in the city. Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating further.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid confrontations during traffic disputes to prevent such violent altercations.
