Fire broke out in OT section of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hospital in Pune Cantonment

On September 5, 2020 at 11.15 am, electric short circuit led to burning of furniture as well as causing damage to the air conditioning systems in the Operation Theatre of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel hospital of Pune Cantonment Board.

Amit Kumar, chief executive officer, Pune Cantonment Board informed, “This is to inform that a fire incident took place today at SVBP Cantt general hospital in the operation theatre block. The probable reason for the outbreak is short circuit. There was lot of smoke which took some time to clear. The fire brigade and fire fighting system in place was used to contain. All the ICU patients are stable. Since the fire outbreak was in a different block no patients were required to be shifted or relocated. Things are under control.”

Prakash Hasbe, superintendent, Pune Cantonment Board Fire Brigade said, “At 11.15 am were informed about the fire incident at the OT section. The fire tenders reached to the spot immediately and doused the fire. In the preliminary survey it revealed that electric short circuit led to the fire. Four air conditioning systems have been damaged along with furniture. There has been no casualty as well patients in the other wards are safe too.”

There were spirit, sanitisers and furniture which aggravated the fire in the hospital’s OT section. A fire tender was also called from Pune Municipal Corporation to douse the fire too. Tandel, Asif Shaikh, Tajane, Jagtap, Bhagat, Shammi Kasote helped in dousing the fire.
