Best-selling micro-SUV to get EV-inspired design, bigger touchscreen, and upgraded tech while retaining familiar engines.

Tata Motors has officially teased the facelifted version of the Tata Punch, confirming its launch in India on January 13. The teaser offers the first glimpse of the updated micro-SUV’s exterior, signalling a sharper, more premium look while staying close to Tata’s latest design language. The Punch is currently the brand’s best-selling model, and the facelift is expected to strengthen its position further in the highly competitive entry-SUV segment.

From the teaser visuals, it is clear that the new Tata Punch will draw strong inspiration from the Punch EV, especially in terms of styling and features. At the front, the facelifted Punch gets redesigned LED headlamps with a more polygonal shape, flanked by sleek daytime running lights. Piano black elements on the front fascia and a reworked grille add to the refreshed appeal, while the bumper has been redesigned to give the car a more muscular, SUV-like stance. The design cues closely resemble those seen on Tata’s larger SUVs such as the Harrier and Safari.

In profile, the silhouette remains largely unchanged, preserving the boxy, upright stance that has defined the Punch so far. However, the facelift introduces new dual-tone alloy wheels, which add a touch of freshness to the overall look. At the rear, the changes are more pronounced. The updated Punch features redesigned tail lamps connected by a full-width LED light strip, again echoing Tata’s current SUV design theme. A new shade of blue has also been teased, likely to be one of the highlight colours at launch.

While Tata Motors has not revealed the interior yet, expectations are high for a significantly upgraded cabin. The Punch facelift is likely to get a new dashboard layout, along with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system similar to the one seen in the Altroz. A fully digital instrument cluster is also expected, along with a new two-spoke steering wheel featuring an illuminated Tata logo. The overall cabin experience is expected to feel more modern, with revised upholstery and improved materials.

On the features front, the updated Punch could see a notable expansion. Reports suggest that Tata may introduce a 360-degree camera system and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which would be a major step up for the micro-SUV segment. These additions would further align the Punch with Tata’s broader push towards offering higher safety and technology content across its lineup.

Mechanically, the Tata Punch facelift is expected to retain the same powertrain options as the current model. This includes the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 88 hp and 115 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. A CNG variant will also continue to be offered, delivering 73.5 hp and 103 Nm of torque, catering to buyers looking for lower running costs.

Overall, the Tata Punch facelift appears to focus on enhancing design, technology, and perceived premiumness without altering the core strengths that have made it a sales success. With its EV-inspired styling, upgraded interiors, and a potentially richer feature list, the updated Punch is expected to appeal to both new buyers and existing customers looking to upgrade.

All details, including variant-wise features and pricing, will be revealed at the official launch on January 13.
