First stretch from Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed train from Billimora to Surat to be ready by 2026

On Friday 23rd February 2024, the Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the first stretch from Mumbai-Ahemdabad high-speed train from Billimora to Surat will he ready by 2026.

The main operational control centre will be located at Sabatmati. Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rial project is the first project which has been approved with Japasene government helping execution. 

According to the plan, the train will travel at a speed of 320kmph and stop at 12 stations along the 508 kilometer route.

The exact time for completion of the project was not revealed in the entire 508 kilometers. 

The actual work of tunnel will only begin when the entry point is ready and tunnel boring machines (TBM) are bought. 

During his visit to Mumbai, he stated that the trails on the Billimora – Surat route will be carried out with the E5 series of Shinkansen trains once they are done. 

The delay in the first bullet train was also addressed where it was stated that their have been delays in the same because of delay from Maharashtra government. 

Deep digging for 21 kilometer has started at four points along the Mumbai Railway line. 

Work is currently undergoing at entry location of underground rail tunnel in Thane, Vikhroli and Sawli near Ghansoli. 

The deepest stretch of the tunnel will be at Vikhroli at 56 meters which will be constructed by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).
