Five men have been arrested in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Vickey alias Shubham Parihar in Marunji, Hinjewadi. The victim was killed and his body was dumped in a quarry filled with water. The motive for the murder was reportedly revenge after Parihar beat up a 12-year-old boy, the younger brother of one of the suspects.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 21, hail from Punawale and Jambhe. They were apprehended in a joint operation by Chikhali and Hinjewadi police following a tip-off. Assistant Inspector Ram Gomare said three of the suspects were located in Patil Nagar, Chikhali. During questioning, they confessed to the crime, which took place on September 26. He said that during the questioning, the trio admitted their involvement in murdering their friend Parihar on Sept 26 and dumping the body into the quarry. “The suspects revealed that the victim Parihar was running a flour mill in Jambe village and was their friend. On Sept 26, he had beaten up a 12-year-old boy, who is the younger brother of one of the suspects,” Gomare said.

Gomare explained that Parihar, who ran a flour mill in Jambhe, was lured to the quarry under the pretense of going out. There, a quarrel erupted over the earlier incident involving the young boy. The suspects then killed Parihar using sharp weapons before disposing of his body.

After Parihar was reported missing by his mother on September 28, Hinjewadi police were alerted by Chikhali police about the ongoing investigation.

Senior Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat confirmed that two additional accomplices were also arrested. Rescue teams were deployed to retrieve the victim’s body from the water.

A murder case has been registered against the suspects, and further investigations are ongoing.
