Monsoon is the time for the sweet earthy aroma, tiny droplets that slide on the window panes and the thundering sound of the rain. It is time for many who pack their bags to explore the unexplored.

Pune is blessed to have many such scenic beauties around that are adorned with a beautiful layer of green cover, the gushing water streams, innumerable water falls that slide down the mountains in the valley and  mountains covered in the clouds, making it the most ideal moment to be captured in your cameras.

It is also the most scariest period for trekkers and nature enthusiasts as the nature might turn risky in its own way. Hence, it is recommended that trekkers must enjoy responsibly. 

Lets explore some nearby places which are few hours away from the city’s hustle bustle.

LonavAla – Khandala

The drive to these beautiful is even more exciting if you go by the Pune – Mumbai Express way. Apart from the cascading waterfalls which accompany you till Lonavla, there are several forts which one can visit. Bhushi Dam, adventure parks, Wax museums, etc are a must visit places in Lonavla.

Bhuleshwar Temple

Bhuleshwar is a Hindu temple of Shiva, situated around 45 kilometres from Pune and 10 km from Pune Solapur highway from Yawat. The temple is situated on a hill and was built in the 13th century. There are classical carvings on the walls. It has been declared as a protected monument. The popular Ganpati among the Ashtavinayak is located nearby, Theur Cha Ganapati. Jejuri, a nearby destination has a temple of Khandoba which is agood trek and must temple for the panoramic beauty it offers.

Sinhagad Fort

You are a true Punekar, when you visit Sinhagad in Monsoon every year. Its a ritual. The fog, mist, drizzle and the blowing wind makes your walk at Sinhagad fort memorable. Its is also popular for piping hot Kanda bhaji, Pithla bhakri and Matka Dahi.

Kolad

If you are avid water sports person, you must drive down to Kolad, to the basin of Kundalika river. Enjoy the thrill of water rafting. This place has become a home for many rafters who often visit. A word of caution for all, to visit and opt for rafting under certified trainers only. Just a 2 hour drive away from Mumbai as well as Pune, Kolad also offers a chance to try out activities like archery, rifle shooting, Tarzan swing & many more.

Thosegar Waterfalls

The ancient capital of Maratha Empie, Satara is also the home to a gorgeous waterfall, Thosegar falls located nearby. Showcasing valley of beautiful flowers around, it is a splendid Monsoon destination near Pune, worth visiting. set out for a picnic at the falls and the lovely Kaas Plateau, and capture the beauty of the regional flowers at Sajjangarh, a place where Chattrapati SHivaji Maharaj’s guru Samarth Ramdas Swami took Samadi. Tapola lake is another destination to be visited which is known as Mini Kashmir.
