Chaos erupted at the Pune airport on Tuesday as several flights experienced delays and cancellations, leaving passengers frustrated and stranded.

A SpiceJet flight from Jaipur was delayed by nearly four and a half hours, while another flight from Pune to Bengaluru took off after a delay of almost five hours. A third flight from Pune to Patna via Hyderabad was delayed for over four hours.

The delays and cancellations not only caused inconvenience but also resulted in passengers missing important appointments and events. One passenger, who was supposed to attend a wedding, missed the ceremony due to the delay.

The airline attributed the delay to “planned maintenance,” but passengers were not convinced. “What does one mean by planned maintenance?” an angry flyer asked. “It was their problem, and they deliberately delayed the flight and just informed flyers assuming everything would be okay.”

Another passenger, Vivien Gupta, who was flying to Bengaluru on IndiGo, reported a delay of over five hours. “Passengers got really angry,” he said. “Around 10:45 am, some refreshments were served after arguments started.”

The delays were not limited to SpiceJet and IndiGo. City resident Suraj Patil reported that his SpiceJet flight to Darbhanga was cancelled due to bad weather. However, Patil claimed that he received an email about the cancellation only after midnight, leaving him with no alternative options.

The Pune airport authorities attributed the delays to congestion issues, but passengers were unimpressed. “It’s not just about the delay; it’s about the lack of communication and alternative options,” one passenger said.

The incident highlights the need for airlines to improve their communication and customer service. As one passenger put it, “We pay for a service, and it’s the airline’s responsibility to deliver it.”

Another flyer on Pune Bhubaneshwar flight, Vijay Suryavanshi complained about the delay in arrival of the Air India Express flight to Pune which also delayed the departure of the flight to Bhubaneshwar yesterday evening.

The incident in Pune is not an isolated one. Flight delays and cancellations have become a growing concern across the country, with passengers facing increasing inconvenience and frustration.
