Former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav has formally entered the political arena by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, marking a significant transition from the cricket pitch to public service.

The induction ceremony took place at the BJP office in Mumbai, where Jadhav was welcomed by Maharashtra Revenue Minister and BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, senior BJP leader Ashok Chavan, and other key party figures. His joining had been widely speculated after a series of meetings with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Minister Ravindra Chavan, and BJP leader Ashish Shelar, who is also the former president of the Mumbai Cricket Association.

With this move, Jadhav follows the footsteps of other Indian cricketers like Gautam Gambhir, who successfully transitioned into politics and served as a Member of Parliament for the BJP.

Hailing from Pune, Jadhav had a notable cricketing career. He played 73 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India, scoring 1,389 runs with an average of 42.09, including two centuries and six fifties. As a part-time bowler, he claimed 27 wickets. In the T20 format, he featured in 9 matches, scoring 122 runs. However, he never made an appearance in Test cricket. Jadhav played his last international match in February 2020 and announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in June 2024.
