Former Wipro Employee Alleges Religious Harassment, Forced Conversion Pressure At Pune Office

A former employee of Wipro Technologies has filed a complaint with the Hinjewadi Police and issued a legal notice to the company, alleging religious harassment, workplace discrimination and pressure to convert during her tenure at the company’s Pune office.
The allegations surfaced during a press conference in Pune, where the former employee claimed that a colleague repeatedly pressured her to embrace Islam and pursue a relationship with a Muslim man. According to her, the colleague allegedly became involved in her personal life and repeatedly suggested that converting would lead to a more comfortable future and better opportunities abroad.
The complainant stated that she firmly rejected these suggestions and subsequently restricted all interactions with the colleague to professional matters. She further alleged that after resisting the pressure, she began facing difficulties in the workplace.
The woman has also levelled serious allegations against a colleague and a senior official, claiming that inappropriate suggestions were made regarding her personal relationships and future career prospects. According to her complaint, she was allegedly encouraged to pursue certain personal relationships in exchange for career advancement and overseas opportunities.
The former employee claims she repeatedly reported the matter through official channels within the company but no disciplinary action was taken against those named in her complaint. Instead, she alleges that her concerns were ignored and that she later faced proceedings before the company’s internal Ombuds Committee.
She further claimed that she was ultimately forced to resign and has described her exit from the company as unlawful. The complainant has demanded reinstatement to her position and has called for stronger institutional mechanisms to ensure women’s safety in private-sector workplaces.
According to the complaint, the matter was raised with management on multiple occasions, including after her resignation, when she sought clarification regarding the circumstances surrounding her departure from the company.
Police have confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that an investigation is underway. The complainant has reportedly been called for further proceedings related to the registration of a formal FIR.
The case has drawn attention because of similarities being drawn with another recently reported workplace controversy involving allegations of religious conversion pressure. In both instances, complainants have alleged workplace harassment, pressure related to religious conversion and dissatisfaction with the response of internal grievance mechanisms.
As of now, Wipro has not issued any official public statement regarding the allegations. The claims made by the former employee remain allegations and have not been independently verified. Police investigations are continuing, and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
