Sanjita Mohapatra’s Inspirational Journey from Childhood Struggles to Becoming Amravati Zilla Parishad CEO

Sanjita Mohapatra, the Chief Executive Officer of Amravati Zilla Parishad and a successful IAS officer, has proven that resilience and determination can overcome even the toughest odds. Despite growing up in a financially struggling family in Rourkela, Odisha, and facing the challenge of being an unwanted girl, she has become a beacon of hope and inspiration.

Born into a family facing significant financial hardships, Mohapatra’s arrival was met with disappointment by her mother, who had hoped for a son after the birth of her elder sister. However, her elder sister’s insistence led to her parents keeping her, despite the initial rejection.

At 34 years old, Mohapatra shared her childhood struggles at a recent press conference, highlighting how her family almost abandoned her due to their financial difficulties. Despite this, she harbored a strong ambition to become an IAS officer, and with the unwavering support of her husband, she passed the UPSC examination on her fifth attempt in 2019.

Her journey was marked by relentless perseverance, with Mohapatra depending on social organizations, teachers, and scholarships to support her education. After completing her degree in mechanical engineering, she worked as an assistant manager at the Steel Authority of India, using her earnings to help build a home for her parents.

As the CEO of Amravati Zilla Parishad, Mohapatra has focused on empowering women through self-help groups and improving the quality of education in schools managed by the parishad. She has successfully developed a specialized market for products sourced from these self-help groups, overseeing branding, packaging, and product launches.

Mohapatra acknowledged the crucial role played by her husband in helping her realize her dream of becoming an IAS officer. She said, “My husband and my school friends have always supported me. Their encouragement has enabled me to reach this point today. Now, I am striving to bring about change in society and eliminate the mindset of discrimination between sons and daughters.”

Her remarkable journey serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, support, and breaking societal barriers.
