Fruit seller threatened by ‘Koyta Gang’; demands ‘hafta’ to run business in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pune: A fruit seller was allegedly threatened and asked to pay ‘hafta’ by the famous ‘Koyta Gang’ near Dehu Phata in Alandi on June 19. A complaint has been registered at Dighi Police Station.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Machhindra Pandit, Senior Police Inspector, Dighi Police Station said,  ” On June 19, four individuals, all residents of Alandi’s Padmavati slum, threatened a fruit seller identified as Soham Kale. He was threatened by the gangsters that they belong to the well-known ‘Koyta Gang’.  They also asked him to pay Rs 200 as ‘hafta’ every day to operate his fruit stall in the area.”

As per information, the gangsters used sharp weapons and warned him of vandalizing his store if he fails to pay them ‘hafta’ every day. A case has been filed against the four accused at the Dighi police station under sections 384, 385, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Out of the four accused, one is arrested by the Dighi police. The rest are still on the run. Further investigation into the matter is on.
