With Ganesh Chaturthi just around the corner, Pune’s markets are abuzz with activity. Devotees are thronging to purchase essential items for the festivities, leading to a surge in demand for Gaurai mukhavata (sculpted faces), jewelry, sarees, flowers, and fruits.
Women are particularly drawn to the attractive masks of Gaurai, available in various materials such as cloth, shadu, fiber, and POP. This year’s masks feature a unique feta design, making them even more appealing. Prices range from ā¹1,000 to ā¹5,000 for the decorative ones.
In addition to the mukhavatas, the market offers an array of jewelry options, including traditional, pearl, bangles, earrings, and one-gram gold sets priced up to ā¹6,000.
Gauri idols have also undergone a transformation, with the introduction of the Amaravati pattern. These elegant and attractive idols are priced between ā¹2,000 and ā¹8,000.
Flower prices have skyrocketed due to increased demand. Hibiscus,Marigold, Shevanti, Gerbera, Dutch Rose, Carnation, Orchid, and gladiolus are among the popular flowers used for decoration. A flower market trader, attributed the price hike to the surge in demand.
Fruits, too, are in high demand for worship and prasad purposes. Bananas, apples, guavas, chikku, and pomegranates are among the most sought-after fruits. Traders anticipate strong demand for apples and bananas throughout the festival period.
As the city gears up for Ganeshotsav celebrations, markets are expected to remain bustling with activity.
