Residents of Pashan woke up to a surprise when walkers around Pashan lake found Gaur (Indian Bison) moving around. The news of a Indian Bison went viral and Forest department, Police and Fire brigade were pressed into service immediately for it’s safe rescue.

The death of an Indian Bison who was seen in a residential society in Kothrud about two weeks ago is still fresh among citizens. With today’s news on another Gaur entering into city limits spread panic among the citizens.

Last time huge crowd had gathered to witness the rescue operation of the Gaur which eventually led to his death. But after eight hours of rescue operation by Pune Forest Officials, Pune Police, and Animal Rescue teams, the second gaur spotted in Pashan has been released in the jungle without any tranquilizing.

Pune Pulse reached out to District Forest Officer, Rahul Patil, to understand the safety of the gaur and the rescue operation. Patil said, “A huge thanks to Punekars for maintaining healthy atmosphere for the Gaur by not overcrowding. The operation ran for almost 8-9 hours and we were successful in sending the animal back to its habitat, safely.”

This is the second time that the Gaur has been spotted and hence it can be understood that the population of ‘on the verge of extinction’ species is increasing in Pune. The Forest Department of Pune will deploying a research team to study the presence of Gaur and its current population in Pune, which in itself is a good news as the animal doesn’t harm the humans.
