Global Outage Hits WhatsApp, Instagram, And Facebook, Disrupts Services For Thousands
On Wednesday, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook experienced a major global outage, leaving thousands of users unable to access the platforms. The disruption impacted both desktop and mobile versions of these apps, all owned by Meta.
Reports of issues began surfacing around 10:58 PM, with users facing difficulties logging in, uploading content, and sending messages. Instagram users reported frequent crashes and an inability to update or view posts, while WhatsApp users struggled to send and receive messages. Threads, Meta’s text-based social media app, was also affected.

According to Down Detector, over 70,000 issues were reported for Instagram, while more than 100,000 complaints were logged for Facebook.
Meta acknowledged the issue in a statement posted on X, saying, “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Ironically, the announcement was made on X, a rival platform, drawing attention from users.
This is the latest in a series of outages affecting Meta’s platforms, following significant disruptions in March and October 2022. The cause of the current outage is under investigation.
