Pune: A 30-year-old man from Pimpri was brutally assaulted and robbed by a gang that lured him through a fake profile on the gay dating app Grindr. The incident, which occurred on March 18 near the RTO signal Chowk, falls under the jurisdiction of Bund Garden Police Station. An FIR was lodged on March 22, 2025.

According to the police, the victim connected with the accused, identified as Imran, a resident of Mangalwar Peth, through the dating app. Imran had posed as gay to initiate a conversation and later invited the victim to meet near the RTO Chowk. Upon arrival, the victim was led through a broken boundary wall to an isolated area near the railway premises, where three of Imran’s accomplices were waiting.

The gang physically assaulted the victim and forced him to withdraw all the money from his bank account via an ATM, taking ₹10,000. When the gang demanded more money and the victim refused, they continued to beat him using tree branches, fists, and kicks, causing injuries to his face, back, and left shoulder.

Speaking to Free Press Journal, Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad of Bund Garden Police Station stated that the accused had created a fake profile to lure and rob the victim. “We have identified the main accused, and he will be arrested soon. People need to be cautious of such scams and avoid meeting strangers alone. The matter is under investigation, and strict action will be taken against the culprits,” he added.
