Pune: SPPU’s Museum Of Cartoon Unveils Mascot ‘Shasha’ On Third Anniversary

The Museum of Cartoon at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) marked its third anniversary with a special celebration, featuring the unveiling of its official mascot, ‘Shasha.’
The event was graced by eminent cartoonist S. D. Phadnis, along with Dr. Madhavi Reddy, Head of the Department, Department of Communication Studies, Dr Priya Gohad, Curator of the Museum, and Renuka Suryavanshi, Editor of Pune Pulse. The museum, founded by Suraj Kumar Sriram (Eskay), on March 12, 2022, and has since become a hub for cartoon enthusiasts.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, a cartoon workshop was organized, attracting over 25 students eager to learn from experts. Additionally, the winners of the National Cartoonists and Illustrators Competition were announced, recognizing outstanding talent in the field.
The unveiling of Shasha marks a new milestone for the museum, adding an engaging and symbolic element to its growing legacy.
The museum is started by Suraj Kumar Sriram (Eskay), known in media circles by his pen name Eskay, is a well- known cartoonist & illustrator. In the early ’80’s, his work appeared regularly in the Sunday edition of ‘Indian Express’ and the tabloid ‘Blitz’. From 1996 to 2013 he was the editorial cartoonist for Banker & Tradesman published in Boston USA. He has authored a number of books. In 2003 and 2005 he received awards from the New England Press Association for excellence as an editorial cartoonist.
The Museum of Cartoon Pune :
Museum is open for public from Tuesday to Friday (2pm to 4pm) and Saturday (11 am to 1 pm)(Except First and Third Saturday). It is closed on all public holidays.
