Heavy Downpour Forced Central Railway To Cancel Pune-Mumbai Trains; Flight Operations Remain UnaffectedÂ
Due to continuous and intense rainfall, the Central Railway announced on Friday the cancellation of several trains on the Pune-Mumbai route. As a precautionary measure, all trains scheduled for July 26, 2024, including the CSMT-Pune Intercity Express, Pune-CSMT Pragati Express, and Pune-CSMT Deccan Queen Express, have been canceled.
“There have not been any major delays of trains running from the Pune railway division today; only the trains between the Pune and Mumbai section are canceled,” stated Rampal Barpagga, spokesperson for the Pune railway division.
Kamlesh Rathi, a businessman from Pune, shared his predicament, “I had to go to Mumbai tomorrow for an important meeting and had made a reservation on the Deccan Queen train. Now, I have to travel by road in the morning.”
Santosh Dhoke, director of the Pune airport, confirmed that flight operations have not been impacted. “All necessary measures have been taken by the airport authorities to handle the rush of passengers. Not a single flight, either departure or arrival, was canceled at Pune airport today,” Dhoke said. “There were 91 departures and 91 arrivals scheduled today, and a consistent flow of air traffic has been maintained.”
However, some X users reported flight delays. Palak Nandurkar tagged Air India regarding a delayed flight from Delhi to Pune, to which Air India responded that the delay was due to unavoidable operational reasons, though it is uncertain if heavy rains in Pune played a role. Vipul Jain (@Jain_Vipul02) inquired about the departure status of flight S5200 scheduled for July 26, questioning if it would be affected by the weather.
Despite the adverse weather, it is commendable that the flight traffic was properly managed, ensuring minimal disruption to passengers.
