Pune: Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds disrupted normal life in Pune on Monday morning, causing severe waterlogging and traffic congestion across multiple areas of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pune, warning of more intense weather in the coming days.

The sudden downpour brought relief from the scorching heat, but also led to chaos on the roads. Major localities such as Sinhagad Road, Kothrud, Warje, Aundh, Baner, and Hadapsar reported heavy rain since early morning. Waterlogged roads and poor drainage systems resulted in long traffic snarls and difficulty for both commuters and pedestrians.

The IMD has predicted wind speeds ranging between 50 to 60 kmph, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and stormy showers. Authorities have advised citizens to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.

Due to the intensity of the rain, many roads in low-lying areas were submerged, severely affecting vehicle movement. The combination of poor drainage infrastructure and the sudden cloudburst overwhelmed civic response systems, causing further inconvenience to residents.

Weather experts have forecast continued rainfall over the next seven days, with wind speeds expected to range between 40 to 50 kmph. Officials have urged citizens to stay updated on weather alerts and to take safety precautions while venturing outdoors.

The sudden shift in weather comes after several days of rising temperatures and humidity levels in Pune. While the rain offered much-needed relief from the heat, the infrastructural challenges once again highlighted the city’s struggle with monsoon preparedness.
