Hoax Bomb Threat Emails Spark Panic at Pune Colleges, Police Investigate

Pune Airport Receives Bomb Threat Email; Panic Ensues, Later Declared Hoax
The Bharati Vidyapeeth Police in Pune have registered an FIR against an individual for sending bomb-threat emails to Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College on November 6. The emails were sent at 3:48 p.m. and 8:43 p.m. to the college principal Dr. Mandar Dattatreya Karmarkar. The messages, sent from the email address [email protected], claimed a bomb had been placed on the college campus and demanded evacuation of the hostel area.
Two threatening emails were received early on Wednesday morning at 3:45 a.m. and 8:43 a.m. The principal reported the threats to the police, who promptly began an investigation. Only first-year medical students were present on the Dhankawadi campus at the time, and they were asked to leave their classes as a precaution. Every floor of the college was thoroughly checked, but no suspicious items were found.
Following the threats, police filed a case under Sections 125, 351(2), and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Senior officials, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), arrived at the college located on Pune-Satara Road to conduct an extensive search operation. The college reported the incident to authorities after receiving the threatening emails. The search revealed nothing suspicious, confirming the threats were a hoax.
The cybercrime police have been given the IP address of the emails for further investigation. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Pune has also collected information regarding the incident.
Earlier that same morning, DY Patil University in Pimpri received a similar bomb threat email, prompting a separate police search. The threats to both institutes were determined to be hoaxes. Authorities are now probing the origin of the emails and any potential connection between the incidents.
