Hoax Bomb Threats To Indian Airlines: Most Originating From Abroad, Says Murlidhar Mohol
Indian airlines have been facing a surge in hoax bomb threats, with most of them originating from abroad, according to Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol. This alarming trend has resulted in significant disruptions to air travel, causing stress and tension among passengers.
Mohol revealed that the majority of these threats were made via calls or social media messages from foreign countries. “We have learnt that in most cases, threats were issued to airlines via calls or social media messages from foreign countries. Some of them originated in the country too,” he said while talking to media.
The Indian government is taking these threats seriously and is working on amendments to civil aviation regulations to address the issue more effectively. The government is also exploring stricter measures to deter such incidents, including placing individuals responsible for hoax bomb threats on a no-fly list.
Recent incidents highlight the severity of the issue. An Air India Express flight from Dubai to Jaipur was forced to land at Jaipur International Airport after receiving a bomb threat. Similarly, a London-bound Vistara flight from Delhi was diverted to Frankfurt following a similar threat.
The Civil Aviation Ministry and concerned departments are closely monitoring the situation, advising airlines to follow safety protocols and ensure passenger convenience. The Bureau of Civil Aviation has held meetings to examine the situation and ensure maximum safety.
Aviation expert emphasized that while aircraft undergo thorough checks before takeoff, no chances can be taken in case of a bomb threat after landing. “These incidents have resulted in heavy mental agony among travelers and stakeholders”.
As the situation continues to unfold, passengers are advised to remain vigilant and cooperate with airline staff and security personnel. The government’s prompt response and measures to address these hoax threats aim to restore confidence in air travel and ensure passenger safety.
