Honda has issued a recall for a significant number of 2023-2024 Accord and HR-V vehicles as a result of a component deficiency in the front seat belt pretensioners. This particular issue has the potential to heighten the chances of sustaining injuries in the event of a collision.

Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently released notices stating that the pretensioners, which are responsible for tightening seat belts upon impact, may lack the necessary rivet to secure the quick connector and wire plate. As a result, passengers may not be adequately restrained in the event of a collision, as highlighted by regulatory authorities.

The NHTSA has attributed the problem to a mistake that occurred during the assembly process. Potentially, over 300,000 Accords and HR-Vs could be impacted. According to the notice issued by the NHTSA, dealers will conduct inspections and replace the seat belt pretensioner assemblies at no cost to the owners.

According to the documents published by the NHTSA, Honda has received seven warranty claims as of November 16. However, there have been no reports of injuries or deaths associated with the defective pretensioners. Individuals who have already incurred expenses for these repairs may also qualify for reimbursement.

Starting from January 8, 2024, notification letters will be dispatched via mail to the registered owners of the impacted vehicles. To obtain further details regarding the recall, consumers are encouraged to visit the recall pages of NHTSA and Honda online.

Honda recently issued a recall for nearly 250,000 vehicles in the United States due to potential bearing failure, which could result in engine stalling and an increased risk of accidents. According to official documents, the company received 1,450 warranty claims related to the issue, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

In June, Honda issued a recall for approximately 1.2 million vehicles due to a potential issue where the rearview camera images might not be displayed on the dashboard screen.
