The Indian Railway is currently operating a special Vande Bharat Express train service in West Bengal to meet the increased demand during the festive season. The train runs between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station and is exclusively maintained and managed by Indian Railways. The special train service will continue until November 29, 2023.

During the festive season, the national transportation system has run three Vande Bharat Express Special trains on different routes, including New Delhi-Patna Junction-New Delhi, Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli-Chennai Egmore, and Howrah-New Jalpaiguri-Howrah. The Eastern Railway zone has successfully added 6768 extra seats by operating the special Vande Bharat Express service between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri in both directions, alleviating the increased passenger demand experienced during the festive season.

The Vande Bharat Express Special, with train number 02301/02302, covers a distance of 561 kilometers in just seven and a half hours, making it the quickest train on its route compared to the Shatabdi Express and Saraighat Express, which take 8 and a half hours and 9 hours, respectively, to cover the same distance. The Howrah-New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express Special comprises 16 coaches, including Executive Class and Chair Car coaches, and is available solely on Wednesdays. The train makes stoppages at three railway stations along its route, including Bolpur Shantiniketan, Malda Town, and Barsoi Junction.
