Pune, a city once known for its cool summers, is now facing scorching temperatures even after rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in the city are soaring.

On Monday, the Shivajinagar observatory recorded a temperature of 34.7 degrees Celsius, while Koregaon Park topped the charts with a scorching 43.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Surprisingly, Pashan, usually cooler, hit a high of 40.4 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday saw even higher temperatures in various areas like Lohegaon, Chinchwad, Magarpatta, Koregaon Park, and Wadgaon Sheri, with the mercury crossing 42 degrees Celsius, marking it as the hottest day yet. Despite this, there was no significant drop in temperatures on Wednesday. The IMD forecasts a further rise in temperatures. Although some parts of the city experienced rainfall on Tuesday, others remained dry and hot. This disparity is attributed to high daytime temperatures leading to cloud formation.

The high temperatures combined with increased moisture have caused the formation of dark clouds accompanied by thunder and lightning. However, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the moisture levels are not sufficient for substantial rainfall. While some parts of Pune have received rain, other areas are still experiencing dry conditions. The current weather patterns, including occasional rain and thunderstorms, are typical of summer. However, due to limited moisture, they are not resulting in significant downpours. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, with nights staying hot and humid. Unfortunately, the light rainfall has brought little relief and has only added to the discomfort for residents.
