Hours After Valentine’s Day Dinner, Chartered Accountant Slits Wife’s Throat, Claims Robbery Attempt
Police solved the case within 18 hours after the husband first claimed it was a robbery attempt. Family alleges the crime was driven by suspicion and repeated quarrels.
What began as a Valentine’s Day celebration for a young couple in Haryana ended in a horrifying tragedy, after a chartered accountant allegedly murdered his pregnant wife and then tried to mislead police by staging the incident as a robbery.
The victim, Mehak, worked at a private bank in Gurugram and was two months pregnant. She had married Anshul Dhawan, a chartered accountant from Hisar, only four months ago.
Incident After Valentine’s Dinner
According to police, the couple had spent Valentine’s Day together before leaving for Gurugram by car. Late Sunday night, around 11 pm, Anshul called the police claiming that unknown attackers had tried to rob them and slit his wife’s throat.
However, investigators soon noticed inconsistencies in his account.
Police Found Gaps In Husband’s Story
Officers said Anshul kept changing his statement and could not describe the attackers clearly. This raised immediate suspicion.
The deceased’s brother, Akshay, stated in his complaint that the family was first told Mahak had died in a road accident, but when they reached the spot, they found deep injuries from a sharp-edged weapon.
“It was not an accident but a premeditated murder,” the complaint alleged.
Confession And Arrest Within 18 Hours
Jhajjar Police detained Anshul for questioning. After sustained interrogation, he allegedly confessed to killing his wife.
Police said he had been repeatedly suspicious of Mahak’s character, leading to frequent quarrels between them.
Brutal Details Of The Murder
Investigators revealed that Anshul allegedly wore gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. He is accused of first strangling Mahak and then using scissors to slit her throat.
Family Demands Strict Punishment
Mahak’s sister Shruti said the family believed everything was fine in the marriage and demanded the harshest punishment.
“My sister was two months pregnant. We want justice,” she said.
Police have registered a case and the investigation is ongoing.
